Celebrating 53 Years: CLIMBS Champions Sustainability and Community Empowerment
August 26, 2025Earth Day 2025: CLIMBS, MASS-SPECC, NATCCO, LGUs at the forefront of environmental protection and conservation
Through the power of collective action, CLIMBS Life and General Insurance Cooperative rallied its efforts in leading the Cooperative Earth Day Campaign 2025, in collaboration with MASS-SPECC, NATCCO, City local Environment and Department of Environmental and Natural Resources Region 10, alongside Kusgan Volunteers Inc.
This year’s theme, “Our People, Our Planet” underscores the call to action and the significant role of cooperatives in advancing sustainability and promoting a greener and cleaner environment. CLIMBS employees and several other officers including the Bureau of Fire Department Station 7 led the garbage collection, trash-picking, and clearing of waste materials in the shoreline of Brgy. Bulua, Bucana Coastal Area to Sitio Kiraba, Bayabas.
A total of 70 bags of trash were collected along the coast, from papers to plastics, and bags and bottles, every effort was made with the Sustainable Development Goals, SDG 13: Climate Action and SDG 14: Life Below Water in mind. Looking at a bigger lens and mobilizing a whole-of-society approach in declaring climate action and shaping a sustainable future.
Marine conservation and preservation is also one factor of why coastal clean-ups are important and the desire to essentially reduce single-use plastics and disposable materials, despite the harrowing effects of climate change. We, as consumers and producers, must be responsible and held accountable for the immense consumerism and rapid increase of non-biodegradable materials that poses a serious threat in our ecosystem and jeopardizes our biodiversity.
